XT-Commerce high-speed search

As the standard installation of XT-Commerce comes with a quite slow product search, we’ve refined the whole thing and added some nifty effects to the search results.

The main goal was to optimize the search for shops that have thousands of articles. The totally revamped search displays results in 1-3 seconds, from an article source of 500.000. It’s capable of searching just the title, the autor of a book ( written for a bookshop with extra fields ), and the product contents. Of course you can combine these searches or limit it to one field.

The resulting output is a plain list with the title of the articles, the short description and the price. Hovering on an article title will reveal the content of the extended description in a mootools based ( yes, the shop can do mootools ) tooltip.

Since over 2 years we run our screenshot service - with such an enormous success, that our server now reaches its limits. Too many requests per second slow down the progress, so we decided to implement a queue. Yet, no normal queue, but one that adds requests to it when the server load / image request climbs over a specified max value.

We’re sorry that from now on image processing may take a while, but remember - you’re getting the best quality, high sized thumbnails you can think of So stay tuned, if enough commercial projects order this service we can add another server to split the load and support your free version with faster image loads.

AJAX based websitecheck

A new beta of our small websitecheck has been put online. It checks for valid (x)html / css documents, retrieves info about used css files, gets the whole meta descriptions,h1,h2 headers from the page, creates a tagCloud of the most used words, displays the page rank and creates a thumbnail of the tested website.

Due it’s ajax functionality, all the tests run simultaneously - yet, this is piece of software is still beta, so errors can occur. If you receive errors, please note them, add your information ( website, email etc ) and send it to us please, as we can then improve the whole testing procedure.

Site-Thumb - thumbnail plugin for wordpress

Site-Thumb is a wordpress plugin that enables you to display external website screenshot as a thumbnail in your posts. Currently, Site-Thumb uses `artViper designstudio website thumbnail` as the default generator. However, you may also use any other online thumbnail generator if you wish.
